Muddy field, stinky smell, and what not. The conditions that day were disappointing. And although, the Sembawang field was a touch place to play in, Smokers FC managed to beat the Alumni team with the score of 6-3.

The Alumni team consist of the ex-Unitians, mostly the graduates of the 2008 batch. The match started off with the opposition having majority of possession. Shortly after it had begun, Fadli from the other team managed to slip past the defenders, and force a ball past the goalkeeper, Yuwei.

A few minutes later, Pravin scored, opening the scoring account for Smokers FC.

As we were about to end the first half, a mistake by the goalkeeper allowed the other team to go into halfteam, leading with the score of 2-1.

During halftime, tactical change were made. Instead of playing the usual formations, the team opted for 4-4-2, with John shifting to left wing, and Fauzi playing upfront with Pravin.

The second half began, and our team was desperately looking for the equaliser, and indeed got it. Score at that time 2-2.

As the game went on, the defence failed to clear a highball, which resulted in the opposing team's favour.

And so this time, the team fought even harder and managed to find goals through Pravin, Fauzi and John. And thanks to Rusydi, Venoth for assisting them.

Special credits to Hafidz, who took over as goalkeeper later in the game.

20/11/2009

It's another exciting friday afternoon, with a total of 7 goals exchanged between both sides earlier today. Smokers FC vs Teachers & Staff.
It was quite a disappointing match as the guys allowed the opposition team to let in 3 goals. Earlier in the game, the defending allowed Mr Khairul(T&S) to pick up a loose ball, thankfully it was well denied by keeper, Yuwei.

The T&S team was stronger than most of us expected, featuring teachers like Mr Azman, Mr Robin Goh, Mr Dimus Choong and Mr Indra.
The defence wasn't in best form, and it wasn't too long till the opposition brought upon another threat. Mr Khairul managed to tap the ball towards goal, and Mr Choong ran into the area unmarked, and tapped in the opening goal of the game.
The team then started to lack composure, and slowly confidence were fading..

Venoth(Sec 2) happened to play for T&S today. He managed to sneak past the defence, and tip in the ball with his toe. Yuwei was barely near it.
Down by two goals, the team was desperately trying to bring the game back to life. The chance came when Pravin managed to get into position and bring the rebounded ball into the back of the net. The score now, 1-2.

But the defence was again disappointing when Mr Robin Goh managed to cut into the left and launching a shot past Yuwei. 1-3.
The opposition team continued to threaten us by cutting pass our defense. Fortunately, Fauzi managed to pull one goal back, 2-3 now.
After scoring, Fauzi shifted into defence hoping to give some aid. Hisyam and Rusydi then shifted into the centre.
After the shifting of the positions, the team was slow gaining back momentum.
When all hope seems lost, Hisyam executed a wonderful technique by chipping a ball across Mr Azman. Targeted perfectly, 3-3! Game on!

Both sides continued to attack, with the T&S team attacking more than the Smokers. The unlucky thing was that they didn't managed to find the back of the net, and slowly, they were becoming more tired.
The team continued to look for the golden goal, towards the back, with the slightest of chances, Hisyam once again managed to pick up a rebound and score the winning goal!
The game then ended with a scoreline 4-3.

With a little luck, a match that seem destined to be a loss, became an undeserving win.
But the team displayed great perseverance and determination, great spirit!

Score Chart

Pravin - 1

13/11/2009

It was a rainy afternoon with wet, muddy fields. And the Smokers pulled off a great performance by scoring a total of 20 goals against the "Sec 2" team. What is more amazing is that everybody managed to score at least a goal during the one sided afternoon. Credits to our GK, Yuwei for keeping a clean sheet and pulling off great saves during the penalty, and freekicks. Good job guys.

Today the formation of play was 4-1-3-2.
At the back we have Saleh and Rafi commanding the defence. Salikin and I were then playing as fullbacks during both half of the game.
Ikhwan was the defensive midfielder, but switched with Rafi during the later part of the game.

The midfield team was terrific with Fauzi as the central midfielder, and Rusydi plus Zawir operating the right and left flanks respectively. They helped the team gain majority of the possession. Fauzi proved to have a man-of-the-match performance by providing most of the assists. He had a touch in almost every goal!

And finally, lets not forget about our two strikers. On the right was Pravin, and on the left it was John. Both did an awesome job too by racking up 6(DOUBLE HATTRICK) and 4(Double Brace) goals respecitively, topping the scoring chart today.

Here's the scoring list.

Pravin - 6 goals.
John - 4 goals.
Fauzi - 3 goals.
Zawir - 1 goal
Rusydi - 1 goal
Rafi - 1 goal
Salikin - 1 goal
Ikhwan - 1 goal
Nick - 1 goal
Yuwei - 1 goal

Credits to Yuwei once again for making it a clean sheet. He saved a penalty and denied a free kick goal by the opposition team.
Next match next week(?)
Good game guys, take care.
